The Craft

Hair design for film, television, and stage is not simply styling. It is part of character development, visual storytelling, and the discipline of maintaining continuity under the realities of production.

Character Design

Every hairstyle must support the character. It cannot distract from the story. Whether the work is visible or invisible to the audience, the goal is always the same: help the character feel authentic.

Continuity is Discipline

Film and television production often shoot scenes out of order. Maintaining continuity across days or weeks of filming requires detailed observation and documentation.

The audience should never notice the work — which means the work must be extremely precise.

Collaboration

Hair design is never isolated. It works alongside costume, makeup, lighting, and production design. Strong communication between departments is essential for creating a unified visual world.

Leadership on Set

Running a hair department involves organization, preparation, and respect for the pace of production. The department must function smoothly so that actors and directors can focus on the performance and the story.
